Air Collectors Verses Liquid Collectors

Liquid collectors operate at about 80% efficiency and Air Collectors operate at about 60% efficiency. If all you want to do is heat water than a liquid system is what you should purchase. If on the other hand you want to heat your building and reduce the largest portion of your energy bill, Air Systems Make sense. A liquid system has three heat exchanges to heat a building. 1 in the collector at a high temperature 2 in the storage tank at a high temperature and 3 at the plenum coil to heat air giving them an operating efficiency of about 35% to 40%. Air has only one exchange and delivers directly to the building with an efficiency of 45% to 50% and will not require periodic fluid changes or overheating in the summer.
